Bike ride to Tamnabhaig

Bike ride to Tamnabhaig

I set out not knowing where this trail was going to take me. It turned out to be a super ride, through some amazing scenery in very nice weather. A great find!

I have loved the hills around Uig Bay since I first went there and have tried various ways of getting into a good location to photograph them. This time, the first visit with my electric mountain bike, I spotted a gravel track that I hadn’t been down before and decided to ride along it, to see where it went. To my great delight, it led to a nice viewpoint from which to shoot with phone/camera and which also presented a handy location from which to launch the drone.

I started with the drone:

and went on to take a number of phone shots along the track, which went much further into the hills than I had expected: you can just make out the track as it snakes up into the valley in the distance:

On the way, I passed some nice scenes, including this one of the moon perfectly located between the two hilltops and a very nice reflection in a small lochen:

before reaching Loch Reonasgail

from there, I planned to ride to the high point of the track visible ahead and return. But wow! when I got to the high point, the view laid out in front of me was just amazing and I could see the track snaking down to what turned out to be a sea loch, Loch Bike ride to Tamnabhaig. I rode all the way to the end of the road where, to my surprise I found a lodge - some 10 miles from the road.

From there, with the sun starting to set, I rode back to the motorhome and a much needed beer!

On the way back, I had spotted a few very nice reflections and decided, subject to weather conditions, to return the next day with my ‘proper’ camera. The weather that day was good and so I timed my ride to get to the designated spots at about the same time as I’d passed them the day before. Here are results, with a bonus waterfall shot taken on my iPhone:
