Loch Druidibeag

Loch Druidibeag is an RSPB reserve on South Uis where. I spent a couple of nights. Read more to see images of the lovely walks I had whilst there.

Loch Druidibeg is a RSPB reserve and is home to a variety of interesting birds, including golden eagle, white-tailed eagle, and hen harrier - none of which I saw! That despite one of the wardens pointing out to me where the white-tailed eagles were nesting. It is surrounded by beautiful moorland and hills. The RSPB allow overnight parking here for just £10 per night. I stayed for 2 nights.

On the first evening I set out to explore the slopes of Thacla with a view to going back the following day with my camera gear. I elected to walk down the track to start the route towards the hills which was a mistake - I should have driven the car down to the start point so that I had more time before it got dark.

I made for a ravine that I had read about in the Cicerone guide and it was tough going - several times I sank up to my knees in the soft ground - evidence of which you can see in the drone picture of me! There were lots of detours around small lochs, and to find places to cross the small rivers running through the landscape.

The light on the hills was gorgeous and got better as the sun dropped in a clear sky, creating some lovely reflections in the numerous lochs dotted around the landscape. I spent half an hour so around the very pretty ravine with its many waterfalls - most of them visible only via the drone - before heading back to the start point and retracing my steps along the track back to the motorhome. I was lucky enough to see 3 deer fairly close to the road.

On the second evening, the light was nowhere near as good as the previous day and I decided against heading back into the hills and instead just went for a stroll down the track to be greeted by this lovely double rainbow.

All in all, a pretty good stay.
